Lipstick Collection

Lipstick Collection

I’ve done random lipstick posts before, but I thought it would be nice to have one big collection post instead, so they’re not all spread out all over the place. If I get a bunch more for some reason, in the future, I guess I’ll do a part two?

This is my current lipstick collection! I have exactly 30 lipsticks. It probably won’t expand very much for a while because my boyfriend thinks lipsticks are “a waste of money”. Umm … yeah I can see his point. But then, all cosmetics can be seen as a waste of money because you don’t need any of it, really … Anyway, moving on … heh.

Notes: From what I can tell, the lipstick colours are pretty accurate in the images. I made sure I took the pictures in a room with good, natural lighting. Also, all prices are Canadian prices. And lastly, yes, I tend to drift towards certain shades … there are no super crazy colours in my collection, if that’s your thing .

Back row: Pink Gold (NYC), 409B (NYC), 502A (Wet n’ Wild), 547B (Wet n’ Wild). Front row: Fire Alarm (Hard Candy), Flirt (Hard Candy).

I’ll start with my cheapo lipsticks, all of which I got from drugstores or Wal-Mart or something similar. One thing that annoys me about the cheaper lipsticks is that they don’t have the name of the lipstick colour, just number code :( Makes it hard to remember a colour name. Anyway, I don’t use these very much … I’ve learned that with lipsticks, you get what you pay for. And I paid roughly $2-4 for each of these. Not a lot of colour actually shows up on your lips :( They even feel cheap when you twist the lipstick up. I bought these when I was just starting out with lipsticks, so I was a newbie.

The exception are the Hard Candy lipsticks — those are awesome despite the fact they can’t stand up due to the lame little ribbon. I especially love Fire Alarm which is ironically a nude colour (I would have expected a red, with a name like that).

L to R: Almost Nude (Revlon), Pink In The Afternoon (Revlon), Silver City Pink (Revlon), Soft Nude (Revlon Color Burst)

These are some of my Revlon lipsticks, also bought from drugstores. I love Revlon, I think they are a great non-expensive brand, and their lipsticks are great too! They are about $7 each, except the Color Burst which was about $10. These lipsticks are great, they show up properly, they don’t slide around your lips too much and have great staying power. I especially love my Soft Nude at the end of the line up there. Silver City Pink is probably my least favourite of the four up there because it’s a little glittery/sparkly, and I didn’t realize that when I bought it.

L to R: Sensuous Spice (Revlon Color Stay), Tender Pink (Revlon Color Stay), Baby Peach (Revlon Color Stay).

More Revlon lipsticks. I bought these very cheap (3 for $10) at a warehouse sale, I believe they may be discontinued. True to its name, these have great staying power, but the colours are a bit brighter than when I swiped them on my hand, so I do not wear them too often. They are also quite shimmery. The first one, Sensuous Spice, is my least favourite because it’s quite dark, actually. Baby Peach is great though.

L to R: Myth (MAC), Creme Cup (MAC), Shy Girl (MAC), Ravishing (MAC), Angel (MAC).

My MAC lipsticks, which I bought from my local MAC store at their usual retail price ($17 each I believe). I love all of them! MAC is one of my favourite lipstick brands as well. I’ve used Myth till its flat, haha. Myth is a satin lipstick, and even though I love the colour, I do admit it is very drying on the lips and difficult to reapply once it has dried. The three in the middle are cremesheens, which I love. I find Shy Girl to not show up very well though on my lips, but the other two are great. The last one is a frost lipstick although it doesn’t seem frosty at all — Angel is probably my favourite of the ones I own.

L to R: Tea Rose (NYX), Pumpkin Pie (NYX), Harmonica (NYX), Thalia (NYX), Circe (NYX).

My NYX lipsticks are all purchased from online. I had heard many great things about them, and how even though they are so inexpensive ($2 each), they are very comparable to high-end brands. And it’s true! They’re great quality, very moisturizing, if a bit slippery and slidey on the lips. Since I bought them online, I had to rely on other people’s comments and YouTube videos as to which colours to choose. In the end, I ended up liking 2 … and a half of the lipstick colours I bought. Tea Rose and Pumpkin Pie are fantastic and suit me and my skin colour well. Harmonica is the half, haha. It’s a fantastic colour, but it looks VERY pale on me and very shimmery, so I don’t know what occasion I have to ever wear it. Thalia and Circe don’t suit me at all: Thalia is too dark and Circe looks too yellow on me. However, lots of other people love Thalia and Circe, so it’s probably just that my Asian skin colour doesn’t match it very well.

Back row: Nude Beige (YSL Rouge Volupte), Honolulu Honey (NARS), Darling (Gosh), Lilac/308 (Lancome French Touch Absolu).
Front row: 38 (Make Up For Ever), 30 (Make Up For Ever), Belle (Quo)

My mixed bag of higher end lipsticks. For the most part, I love all of these ones, since I got to try them on my actual lips at the department stores (they disinfect them for you — I never try on lipsticks from Sephora though).

The YSL (~$40) is one of my favourites, a very nice pale pink on the lips (but not too light!) It’s really the perfect pink shade for me, and it smells great too. The one downside is that it is not too long lasting, but reapplying once every couple of hours isn’t too bad.

The NARS (~$30) one is great, it is moisturizing and has Vitamin D as well. Great staying power!

The Gosh (~#20) one is a bit of a disappointment. It’s hard to apply because it doesn’t apply evenly, so you have to be patient. It is also a very pale peach, so I have to be careful with the way I do my makeup otherwise I will look like a ghost, haha.

The Lancome (~$40) one is fabulous. It is a limited edition though. I don’t remember the exact name of the shade, only that it has the word Lilac in it. The bottom of the tube has the number 308 if that helps. This lipstick is beautiful and stays long on my lips.

The two Make Up For Evers(~$20ea.) are AMAZING. They apply very well, have incredible staying power and it is just all around incredible. Definitely one of my favourite lipstick brands. The downside is that their choice of colours are all in the vibrant range, so they don’t have very many pale/natural colours.

The Quo lipstick (~$18) is … I hate this one. It looked great when I swatched it on my hand in the store, but when I went home and actually tried it on, it’s way too light, shimmery and is actually a bit of a bizarre brown-pink colour.

I hope this lipstick post has been informative in some way! If you have any questions, comment and let me know!!

Break Up Crazy Haul

Break Up Crazy Haul

So … if you’ve been reading my Twitter the past few days, you’d know my boyfriend of nearly four years and I broke up. Devastated (you have no idea), I went to do some retail therapy. I mean, it is what it is; can’t mope forever. Don’t worry I wasn’t too crazy with my money. My awesome mom gave me some “pity money” to spend because I looked so sad, haha (I feel great now, don’t worry, no longer a miserable little thing).

(I also quit playing World of Warcraft because, well, he plays it … and we were in the same guild where 70% of the members are his real life friends, so … yeah).

This is over the course of 3 days (I didn’t buy it all at once). Three heartbreaking days … but I’m slowly bouncing back :)

1. Of course I will start with the lipsticks. As you can see, my collection has another four lipsticks in a very short time. From left to right: MAC’s Creme Cup (cremesheen); MAC’s Ravishing (lustre, I think … funny story, the saleslady actually gave me Crosswires -__- I had to go back the next day and return it for the lipstick I wanted!); Lancome’s Lily Rose or No. 308 (limited edition! As a result … super pricey. Thanks mom!); and Make Up For Ever’s No. 38. If I were to describe what it looks like on the lips because the colours in the picture may be slightly off, Creme Cup is a natural dusty pink colour, Ravishing is a vibrant coral, Lily Rose is a natural light pink and MUFE’s No. 38 is a bright pink (but not too crazy or neon).

2. My sister and I chipped in together to buy this mask cream thing from Lancome as well. Because ….

3. Lancome was giving free gifts if you buy 2 items, one of which must be a skin care product. I should have picked an eye make up remover (for the cheapness factor), but the lady talked the two of us into the expensive mask cream. I slightly regret it, since the limited edition lipstick was so expensive (it cost more than my YSL lipstick!), but the free gifts were pretty cool. I only have the lip gloss and the sample size Genifique serum showing in the photo because I decided my sister can have the mini foundation, mascara and make up bag. I have heard AMAZING things about the Genifique serum and am excited to give it a whirl. Unfortunately it’s VERY expensive (see prices on website), so this is probably the only time I’m going to use it (unless it turns out to be just so jaw dropping amazing that I must have it, hahaha).

4. Kat Von D liquid eyeliner pen in Trooper. I don’t know why, but everytime I buy Revlon’s liquid eyeliners, they go from being a rich dark liquid to a watery mess after only a few uses! And I store it only in my bedroom, so I don’t know what went wrong. It does this EVERY time, I’ve gone through like four of those Revlon liquid liners.  Frustrated, I decided to try out this pen liner from Kat Von D, since one of my favourite make up gurus on Youtube use it as well.

5. There’s this little cart in the mall that I think is new or something, and all they sell is fake eyelashes! They had sooo many and I thought it was a really good price. At the drugstore, when I see Revlon or NYC fake lashes, they usually cost around $5 for one set. MUFE sells their’s for a whopping $15 for one set! These (Luxe) ones are 3 for $12, or $4 each, so I thought that was a good price. Plus, they give you a little card where you can get a stamp every time you buy a box. After 9 boxes, you can choose a free box! Oh, and of course, got some eyelash glue to go with it.

6. Half price Hello Kitty earrings. I thought they were cute, haha! It’s three Hello Kitty silhouette things stacked up on one another! I also got a pair of (fake) diamond studs at the same shop for only $1.50, but I didn’t show them in the picture because I was wearing them when I took this picture, haha. But I’m sure you can imagine what a pair of (fake) diamond studs would look like.

ANNDD I totally forgot to show it, but I also got two L.A. COLORS nailpolishes. One in a bronze colour and the other in a hot pink. I found them for sale in this clothing shop I usually frequent, but they never used to sell make up. They’re now selling L.A. COLORS products and E.L.F. lipglosses :O How strange! I usually totally brush off make up that’s sold in clothing stores ’cause, well, they’re usually either brandless or the “store brand” and … well, they usually suck. But L.A. COLORS and E.L.F. are legit brands, so I was surprised.

Ok, that’s all :) Probably shouldn’t spend money for a while …

All About Black Eyeliners

All About Black Eyeliners

I said two posts ago that I will let you know my thoughts on the Maybelline gel eyeliner, but then I thought I might as well write about a bunch of eyeliners. More interesting than just one, right?

First things first: the thing with me and eyeliners is that I have one eyelid that refuses to cooperate. I have double eyelids. My left eye is, well, normal. However, my right eyelid, for some reason, folds closer together or something, so that whenever I put eyeliner on the top lid, it will eventually smudge onto the lid by the crease. I drew a picture of it (above) so that it’s easier to understand. Because it does it on one eyelid and not the other no matter how careful I am to make the liners’ thicknesses equal, I’m pretty sure the reason is my right eyelid is just, well, closer together. Ugh, I have non-symmetrical eyelids, hahaha.

Anyway, so I have extra reason to be on the lookout for smudge proof eyeliners. I’ve tried many in the past, but here are the ones currently in my make-up arsenal (only my black eyeliners) and some others that my sister owns are mentioned as well. Jump below the cut!
