Break Up Crazy Haul

Break Up Crazy Haul

So … if you’ve been reading my Twitter the past few days, you’d know my boyfriend of nearly four years and I broke up. Devastated (you have no idea), I went to do some retail therapy. I mean, it is what it is; can’t mope forever. Don’t worry I wasn’t too crazy with my money. My awesome mom gave me some “pity money” to spend because I looked so sad, haha (I feel great now, don’t worry, no longer a miserable little thing).

(I also quit playing World of Warcraft because, well, he plays it … and we were in the same guild where 70% of the members are his real life friends, so … yeah).

This is over the course of 3 days (I didn’t buy it all at once). Three heartbreaking days … but I’m slowly bouncing back :)

1. Of course I will start with the lipsticks. As you can see, my collection has another four lipsticks in a very short time. From left to right: MAC’s Creme Cup (cremesheen); MAC’s Ravishing (lustre, I think … funny story, the saleslady actually gave me Crosswires -__- I had to go back the next day and return it for the lipstick I wanted!); Lancome’s Lily Rose or No. 308 (limited edition! As a result … super pricey. Thanks mom!); and Make Up For Ever’s No. 38. If I were to describe what it looks like on the lips because the colours in the picture may be slightly off, Creme Cup is a natural dusty pink colour, Ravishing is a vibrant coral, Lily Rose is a natural light pink and MUFE’s No. 38 is a bright pink (but not too crazy or neon).

2. My sister and I chipped in together to buy this mask cream thing from Lancome as well. Because ….

3. Lancome was giving free gifts if you buy 2 items, one of which must be a skin care product. I should have picked an eye make up remover (for the cheapness factor), but the lady talked the two of us into the expensive mask cream. I slightly regret it, since the limited edition lipstick was so expensive (it cost more than my YSL lipstick!), but the free gifts were pretty cool. I only have the lip gloss and the sample size Genifique serum showing in the photo because I decided my sister can have the mini foundation, mascara and make up bag. I have heard AMAZING things about the Genifique serum and am excited to give it a whirl. Unfortunately it’s VERY expensive (see prices on website), so this is probably the only time I’m going to use it (unless it turns out to be just so jaw dropping amazing that I must have it, hahaha).

4. Kat Von D liquid eyeliner pen in Trooper. I don’t know why, but everytime I buy Revlon’s liquid eyeliners, they go from being a rich dark liquid to a watery mess after only a few uses! And I store it only in my bedroom, so I don’t know what went wrong. It does this EVERY time, I’ve gone through like four of those Revlon liquid liners.  Frustrated, I decided to try out this pen liner from Kat Von D, since one of my favourite make up gurus on Youtube use it as well.

5. There’s this little cart in the mall that I think is new or something, and all they sell is fake eyelashes! They had sooo many and I thought it was a really good price. At the drugstore, when I see Revlon or NYC fake lashes, they usually cost around $5 for one set. MUFE sells their’s for a whopping $15 for one set! These (Luxe) ones are 3 for $12, or $4 each, so I thought that was a good price. Plus, they give you a little card where you can get a stamp every time you buy a box. After 9 boxes, you can choose a free box! Oh, and of course, got some eyelash glue to go with it.

6. Half price Hello Kitty earrings. I thought they were cute, haha! It’s three Hello Kitty silhouette things stacked up on one another! I also got a pair of (fake) diamond studs at the same shop for only $1.50, but I didn’t show them in the picture because I was wearing them when I took this picture, haha. But I’m sure you can imagine what a pair of (fake) diamond studs would look like.

ANNDD I totally forgot to show it, but I also got two L.A. COLORS nailpolishes. One in a bronze colour and the other in a hot pink. I found them for sale in this clothing shop I usually frequent, but they never used to sell make up. They’re now selling L.A. COLORS products and E.L.F. lipglosses :O How strange! I usually totally brush off make up that’s sold in clothing stores ’cause, well, they’re usually either brandless or the “store brand” and … well, they usually suck. But L.A. COLORS and E.L.F. are legit brands, so I was surprised.

Ok, that’s all :) Probably shouldn’t spend money for a while …

Revlon Sale @ UBC: Nailpolishes & Lipgloss!

Revlon Sale @ UBC: Nailpolishes & Lipgloss!

So today at school, in the student union building, there is a booth (a very big booth!) selling Revlon products at clearance prices. Well, most of the stuff was at clearance prices, there was a few things that I felt were ‘regular price’, but they didn’t interest me, so whatever, haha. There is an area in the student union building where people can set up booths to sell things, and the normal ones are usually selling scarves, socks, jewelry and the like, but the Revlon booth, I believe, is a limited time booth so anyway … I decided to check things out … Can never resist a make up sale.

Anyway, I spent a grand total of $10 for the 3 nail polishes and lip gloss above, which I think is a pretty good deal. The lip gloss was priciest, $4.99, but the nail polishes were only $5 for three :) I really tried not to buy too much because, well, I’m not made of money even if the things are cheap. And I completely avoided the eyeshadow section because damn it, I have too many eyeshadow stuff already, I really should stop buying more! (Although I did take a peek, and it’s mainly stuff I already see in drugstores … so not really interested. When it comes to eyeshadow, I tend to go for non-drugstore brands). So I only looked at the boxes of nail polish and the lip stuff section.

The nail polishes were in large boxes, and unfortunately, there were no tester nail polishes or anything like that, so people were just opening them all and trying them and … well, it was kind of hard to find a bottle of nailpolish that didn’t end up having a smear of polish on it because people just threw them back in the box when they were done, not always making sure the lid is tight. Anyway, I chose those three colours above. I am excited to apply the bright colour onto my nails today :D It is as shiny as it seems in the picture, with a pearly element to it, I like!

The other two nail polishes don’t have quite the shine or pearly-ness that coral one has, they are more like “normal” nail polishes … and I chose darker colours just because I already have quite a few bright, light colours at home. I was curious as to how the silver one would look. It looks almost gray to me. I actually didn’t try it on my nails yet. I kind of have a feeling it won’t look as good as a solid colour on my nails, but maybe I can use it for when I want to do some easy nail art … I dunno … gray dots on a black background? Or something?  The purple-ly red one I’m excited to use as well. I’m not a fan of traditional bright red, like old Hollywood glam red … but darker reds, I do like.

Then there was the lip gloss. I do not buy lip glosses that often just because they always show up on your lips different from the bottle, and differently from when you test it on your skin, like your hands or something (skin colour on hands usually not the same colour as your lips! Haha). And obviously I don’t want to be applying the tester one directly onto my lips because, well, you never know who last used it. So when I buy lip gloss, I am gambling that I will like the way the colour turns out on my lips. This one was called “honey peach” or something like that (I don’t know why, but the bottle doesn’t have the name of the colour, though it was labeled on the display stand). I put it on when I got home and I LOVE this colour on my lips. It is shiny like gloss, but it’s not clear; there is enough colour to turn your lips into a nice, pale pink colour, but sheer enough that it isn’t overwhelming … does that make any sense?? Hahaha. The colour it appears inside the bottle is accurate enough, maybe a shade or two lighter when applied on your lips. I love this colour, I think I found a new favourite lip gloss to wear! (And it smells kinda good too …)

After Midterms Reward

After Midterms Reward

Rewarding myself for completing all my midterm exams today, I went shopping. Shopping is dangerous for my wallet and I try really hard to restrain myself (usually failing), but today I just had to give myself a treat. Nowhere fancy, just the mall. I kept telling myself that I’m just picking up a few things I need to pick up anyway (dust wipes, facial scrub, things like that) but deep down … I knew it was just an excuse to buy some non-essential things *cough*

The above picture is just a few of the things I bought (the other stuff being too boring and ordinary to show … I mean, really, you want to see what kind of dust wipes I bought?! Hahaha, and eyebrow pencil?) Well, these are the things I’m most excited about anyway. And, with the exception of the gel eyeliner, really cheap. (Please excuse the terrible picture quality; I can’t find the cord that connects my camera to the computer, so I’m making do with my cellphone camera).

LIPSTICKS: I bought two lipsticks, both by Wet n’ Wild. They were only $1.99 CAD each. They are both kind of shiny lipsticks, they give your lips a shine, rather than actually changing your lip colour. The colour is a bit sheer (transparent?) so you have to apply a few layers. I only own one other lipstick and it’s by MAC. There really is no comparison between these two lipsticks and my MAC one — my MAC one is so much more superior. It even feels sturdier in its little tube as I apply. But as I said, these are kind of sheer, and shiny, so you can almost think of it as a lip shine stick instead of a lipstick that changes your lip colour, haha. (I can’t remember the names of the colours I chose. They were labeled on the display, but it doesn’t say on the lipstick tube).

NAIL POLISH: I am usually not much of a nail polish person, and I still don’t think I am, but I love Sally Hansen nail polishes, especially their Hard As Nails line. They go on smoothly, 1-2 coats usually does the trick (I put on 3-4 though, just because I really like the colours to be “vibrant”), and when they dry, they are shiny and smooth. (I once bought ultra cheap nailpolish from Claire’s — that was when I knew how a nail polish can dry flaky and, well, dry). Anyway, the two colours I bought are shown above: a candy pink and a pearl white. They were also $1.99 CAD each, which I was really surprised about because I think these are great nail polishes. Sally Hansen has another line called Diamonds, and those were almost $9 each :S So I don’t know why this line of polishes is so much cheaper, but it’s great. I am loving the white one currently. It comes off as almost silver, because it is so pearly and shiny.

EYELINER: I bought two eyeliners actually, but only showed one (the other is just a pencil by Annabelle, I needed a new one because I ran out, haha). The one shown is a gel liner by Maybelline (who, I found out yesterday, test on animals!! Eek! Along with a whole bunch of other brands I never knew … I feel kind of disappointed. But I bought this gel liner anyway because it was the only gel liner in the entire store and I didn’t want to drive across town to this place that I know has gel liners). Do no other drug store brands make gel liners?!) and unfortunately, I don’t remember how much this cost; probably between $6-7. I haven’t tried it yet, but when I do, I will let you know how it goes. Doesn’t seem that difficult though. I’m hoping gel liner will be less smudgy. It says it’s smudgeproof, but I can’t trust it until I see it for myself.

Anyway, that’s all the stuff I really cared about. I also got a eyeshadow quad of bronze colours, eyeliner and brow pencil like I already mentioned, and  non-makeup stuff. I probably over rewarded myself for finishing all my midterms (actually, I know I over rewarded myself)! Oh well. Let’s see how long I can go on a shopping diet for before I break down again.
