Here is my quick and dirty back to school details!!! (Like you care. But I guess you do if you’re continuing to read this):
CLASSES (not my actual class pictured):
Only taking 3 classes this semester, but I’m still a full-time student because that’s how the Arts Faculty rolls. (In actuality, I believe it’s because of the insane amount of reading and paper writing that I still count as a full-time student). My classes:
1. Metaphors – love this class, love the professor. I’ve had this professor for 3 previous classes — if I know she’s teaching a class I want to take, I always pick her.
2. Rhetoric of science, medicine, technology – Okay, so maybe I should have taken a beginner’s rhetoric class first. But I’m jumping in with two feet anyway. Luckily, I have a friend in this class who has taken beginner’s rhetoric so he’ll help me along. Lots of Science students in this class (get out of my building! LOL, kidding).
3. Seminar class — OKAY. SO. This class is MANDATORY for my English language degree. But I think this seminar is lumped together with the English lit students because this class feels very literature-esque to me. Which I hate. There is a reason I decided to major in the language, the technical aspects like phoentics and metaphors and stylistic devices, blah blah blah … and not literature, which is honestly too deep for me (I always BS my way through a literature paper). To make it worse, we are studying a version of the Old Testament, and a bunch of medieval plays, and you know what kind of plays were popular in the medieval times?? Religious ones. Not that I’m anti-religion or anti-Christianity or anything like that — it’s just that I’m non-religious and I have no interest in religion personally, and I pretty much make it a policy to just stay away from that kind of stuff. So I’m kind of peeved. I feel like I got tricked into this class. And there’s nothing I can do because this class is MANDATORY.
TEXTBOOKS (not my actual textbooks pictured):
Bookstore fucked up. Didn’t tell one of my professors that they decided not to order one of the textbooks. Nobody has that textbook. It is not at other bookstores, on Amazon, Chapters.ca, The Book Depository or other popular online shops. IT IS FREAKING HARD TO FIND. Luckily, I found a used copy for 2 euros on Abebooks. Downside — it’s being shipped from far away.
Also missing another textbook, though it should arrive in mail soon. HAH, like I was going to fork over $160 to the bookstore when Amazon was selling it for $77.
Lots of reading. Lots and lots of reading.
FRIENDS (OBVIOUSLY not me nor my friends):
What friends? Kidding. I’ve got a friend in every class, which is awesome. Well, in one class, I didn’t know anyone at first, but I think I sort of made friends with this girl … But the seating arrangement changes every class, and it’s a very large class, so maybe I won’t see her for a while :X
FREEBIES (^ raspberry vitamin water!! So good):
So it was the first 2 weeks of school and all these promotion people can be seen everywhere on campus. I’ve gotten TONS of freebie drinks (raspberry Vitamin Water = good. Banana Colada ZUNE (is that the brand name?) drinks = bad!!! BAD!!! + other pops, energy drinks, etc) Also got free chapstick, which went straight into my little tin of chapsticks at home (yes, I collect chapsticks — WHAT?) and a free deck of cards.
NEW TRANSIT PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS (I don’t ride the B-line anymore but yes, an actual Vancouver bus!):
There are no glaringly obvious inconveniences so far with the new bus program for students. I still hate it though.
GRADUATION (inaccurate graduation pictured):
Obviously not till May. Found out I can only invite 3 people, and then must somehow get extra tickets another way, possibly from friends who are not using all 3 guest tickets. Mom and dad are definitely invited. Then there’s the problem of my 2 sisters … and the fact my aunt and uncle from Hong Kong are flying over for my graduation (regardless if I get tickets for them or not; apparently they’ll just hang around campus and take pictures with me in my grad gown if they are unable to attend the actual convocation — how’s that for family support?) And also my boyfriend who would like to come … But the current priority list goes Parents > Aunt + Uncle > 2 Sisters (who honestly don’t care if they go or not) = Boyfriend.
I THINK THAT’S IT. CAPS OUT! (And sorry, it wasn’t as quick as I thought it would be). Also, about the pictures — I always put pictures in my blog posts because people are less likely to read blogs with no pictures (who likes big walls of texts?) Most of the pictures are randomly found on Google though and in no way reflect my reality, haha.
