AlliesThese are the people that Garnet meets on her journey, and together, they help Garnet become more of an independant woman. Garnet is not close with all the members of her party. She is close to some more than others, but they have all affected her in some way -- big or small, they all played a huge role on her path to find who she is. Characters who have special relationships with Garnet have their own sections elsewhere on this site.
Zidane - Zidane met Garnet when she wanted to be 'snatched from the castle' and Zidane needed to 'snatch her from the castle' -- how convienient is that? Zidane is part of Lindblum's (in)famous band of thieves, Tantalus, and was on orders from Regent Cid of Lindblum to kidnap Princess Garnet. He is a pretty mischievous guy and always has his mind on girls. However, after meeting Garnet, Zidane found out what it meant to really fall in love. He risked his life for Garnet, and aided her every step of the way on her personal journey, until she became queen and reality crashed down on him -- there's no way a thief like him can be suitable for a beautiful queen like Garnet.
Steiner - Steiner is head of the Knights of Pluto at Alexandria castle and often thought of as second best compared to the General Beatrix, whom the Queen favors over him. Spending most of his time trying to please the Queen, Steiner attempted to find Garnet when she escaped and bring her back to the Queen, hoping to get on the Queen's good side. However Garnet refused to return and Steiner then swore to protect her until she returned to the castle. Steiner comes off as a rough, annoying knight wearing rusty old armor, but his heart is in the right place. He cares deeply about the princess' safety and would give up his life to save her's any day. Garnet appreciates his honesty and care, no matter how annoying he appears, but won't hesitate to silence him if it becomes too much.
Eiko - Garnet is actually from a summoning tribe from Madain Sari (so as it is, Queen Brahne is not Garnet's biological mother, which explains a lot). Eiko is from the same tribe as well, making her and Garnet distant relatives. Don't be mistaken though, the two don't treat one another like long lost cousins at all. Eiko is actually more concerned about keeping Garnet away from Zidane. This little five year old girl has a huge crush on Zidane. She regards Garnet as some sort of a 'love rival' and stops at nothing to win Zidane's affection -- despite the fact she's six years old or so, and Zidane is easily ten years older. She treats Garnet a bit harshly at first out of jealousy but later warms up to the princess when they discover their connection. Just a little bit though.
Vivi - Garnet and Vivi have quite the meeting; Vivi was being chased by Alexandria Castle guards and in an effort to keep the guards away from himself, he sets a magical spell at them, however, the spell misses and sets Garnet's cloak on fire! I don't believe Garnet ever figured out that Vivi did that, but she had much bigger worries on her mind at the time. Vivi often feels useless for not being able to protect the princess or help her much on the journey (this was made clear when Vivi let Garnet be captured by the spider plants in Evil Forest and ran away without attempting to help her) but Garnet is thankful for Vivi's company; the sweet little boy helps keep Zidane off her back.
General Beatrix - The General has watched over Garnet since the princess' childhood days. A top fighter and always ready for the next mission, Beatrix is serious about her duties. She once defeated one thousand soldiers alone and proudly intimidates her enemies (namely Zidane and Co.) with the fact. She, like Steiner, has sworn to protect the Queen and Princess of Alexandria with their own life; however, she turns against the princess when the Queen orders her to do so. It's not until she receives a wake up call from Zidane that her actions are endangering Garnet's life that she realizes the extent of her actions. She later switches to Garnet's side and aids her in many battles. (Beatrix is not considered a playable character; she merely makes a guest appearance in several battles -- in fact most of the time, you fight against Beatrix in a boss fight). Freya, Quina, Amarant - Not that they don't have a relationship with Garnet, but they are more close with Zidane than anything. The reason they begin to follow Zidane and Garnet on their adventure is mostly because of Zidane, not because of Garnet. Freya searches for her lost lover, Quina attempts to become the world's best cook and Amarant seeks the answer to how Zidane became so powerful. However, they do acknowledge Garnet and her quest to save Alexandria and of course, lend her a helping hand as well. "Whisper" is owned and maintained by Jinny. Final Fantasy IX, Garnet Til Alexandros and any related games/characters belong to Square-Enix. |
