Eiko

Garnet first meets Eiko when she arrives in the Outer Continent, at a tiny village (where most of the population is made up of strange crocodile creatures). Eiko turns out to be a thief that the villagers have been wanting to capture for a long time now. Garnet and Co. -- in an effort to be helpful -- chase the poor five year old until she somehow manages to get herself caught onto a tree branch during her grand escape. After sorting out the misunderstanding, Eiko latches onto the party and doesn't leave ... mainly because of Zidane.

Interestingly enough, Eiko develops a rather large crush on Zidane. Her infatuation for the monkey-tailed boy leads to her declaring war against Garnet, who she sees as her rival in love. Eiko quickly catches onto the fact that Zidane and Garnet like each other, although both sides have not admitted to it, and seeing that both have not told one another, Eiko quickly joins the group in an effort to become closer to Zidane and win his heart. Never mind the fact that he's more than ten years older than her and not interested.

Garnet's thoughts

Garnet doesn't view Eiko as a threat at all. In fact, she doesn't even know that Eiko likes Zidane and barely registers the rude things Eiko throws at her, not because she doesn't realize her true intentions for hanging out with the group, but because she likes to treat Eiko for what she is: a five year old child. She sympathsizes for her when she learned why she's all alone. She tells Zidane not to be so mean to her. Garnet acts like Eiko's older sister, for which Eiko is secretly appreciative of. However, Eiko is not all about insensitivity -- even though she usually blurts out the first thing that comes to mind. When she realizes that Zidane and Garnet are truly in love, she knows there is no way she can break them up (it would be just wrong!) and ends up supporting the couple all the way.

When Eiko finds out that Garnet can summon Eidolons too, she was very surprised and wonders why Garnet doesn't have a horn, to which Garnet could only response with confusion. Later on, it is discovered that Eiko is actually part of Garnet's tribe of summoners in Madain Sari. The two girls actually have a deeper relationship then they thought they did and both learn that they aren't as alone as they had thought. It should have been expected when the two joined powers to summon Alexander to protect Alexandria. From then on, it could be seen that the two both have something similar about both of them. The two girls share a deeper bond than anybody could have thought.
