Gemstone

Why is Garnet named Garnet? Is there any links between her name and her character (and her birthday)? Let's see ...

The birthstone Garnet is often mistaken for rubies, because of its red color, but in reality, garnets can come in any color, even colorless and black. The only color garnets never appear as is blue. (However, there is an extremely rare garnet gemstone that has the ability to change its color from blue to red depending on the kind of light that is shone on them). In general though, there are six categories of garnets, each based on their chemical composition. Garnet crystals are usually used as gemstones in jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets and earrings. It can also be used to cut steel and as an indicator of minerals when mining for diamonds.

birthstone meanings

Garnet, as the January birthstone, is said to symbolize loyalty, sincerity, grace and faith (all of which fit Princess Garnet very well). If someone gives you a garnet as a gift, it symbolizes devotion. Devotion is the theme of Princess Garnet's personal quote. The ancient Egyptians placed garnet crystals in tombs to guide the dead souls to their next life and In the 13th century, it was often used to keep evil spirits away.

Garnet is believed to be able to illuminate the night and protect the wearer from wounds, ill health and evil.

garnet, garnet, garnet

The garnet stone represents our princess in many ways. Though her escape from Alexandria castle was deemed traitorous by Queen Brahne, it was actually Garnet's greatest display of loyalty as she was only seeking help for her dear mother, and for her precious kingdom. It may appear as an act of betrayal but underneath the surface it clearly wasn't; Garnet would never, ever betray anyone. Even after knowing her Mother did many evil deeds, Garnet stuck by her. Her loyalty to her mother was so strong, that even though Queen Brahne ordered much harmful destruction and even sent murderous Black Waltzes after Garnet to capture her, Garnet could only remember the goodness in her mother and she wept when Queen Brahne died. I suppose this makes Garnet somewhat blind when it comes to loyalty; she places such strong faith in others that even if they turn against her, she will continue to believe in her memory of that person. She is loyal to a fault.

Garnet has much sincerity, that is pretty self explanatory. She does not lie unless she has a reason to do so, and the reason is usually for the better good. She tries her best to provide the best toward Alexandria and the people of Alexandria, because she cares so much for her kingdom.

She has grace and faith. Garnet never once completely gave up. There are those 'moments' when she wants to, moments when she isn't sure what she is fighting for, but her friends are always there to remind her of their fight. And of course, no princess is without grace --Garnet is definitely 'no commoner' and has that aura of royalty about her.
