Steiner

Steiner is the leader of the Knights of Pluto, one of the two armies that Alexandria holds. The other army, Alexandrian soldiers, are under the command of General Beatrix, Steiner's eternal rival. The Knights of Pluto are mostly made up of bumbling incompetant men, as is Steiner, and General Beatrix's Alexandrian soldiers are made up of skilled fighting women. So it's no surprise that Queen Brahne would favor the more skilled soliders.

However, Steiner believes he will get his real big break and be praised (for once) if he "rescues" Princess Garnet and returns her to Alexandria. The last thing he wants is for Beatrix to receive more time underneath the spotlight. Much to his dismay, his plans were punctured when he realized Princess Garnet was not kidnapped; she had left the castle on her own will and she doesn't seem to be too keen on returning any time soon.

okay, plan B

Throughout Garnet's quest in saving Alexandria from certain doom, Steiner stays by her side as her faithful knight and bodyguard. He often talks a lot and is always on Zidane's case for disturbing the princess, or kidnapping her and he likes to blame Zidane for any strange occurences that he can't explain. Mostly everyone finds him annoying in his endless chatter and shouting 'Princess! Princess!' wherever he goes.

However Garnet doesn't really seem to mind his over-protective ways, nor his loud chatter (unless he goes overboard; then she will ask him to be quiet as well) She's probably accustomed to it, after all, she grew up under Steiner and Beatrix's protection. What's really admirable about Steiner is that no matter Princess Garnet's decision, he will choose to stay by her side. He may not agree with what she is thinking, and he will try to persaude her -- Garnet's not easy to persaude once her mind is made up -- but whatever her final decision is, he will stay by her. And for that, he's worth respecting. He carries out his duties to the fullest of his abilities, even if he can't always do it successfully, he tries his best. He seems a lot more devoted to Princess Garnet than the Queen, although his loyalty to Queen Brahne never wavers. This should be a good thing, but his stubborness at that gets the party in a few messes.
