Phoenix wasn't my favourite character to start with, but don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike him either! I loved and adored the Ace Attorney series, I couldn't find a favourite character. I liked all of them a lot, they were all memorable in their own way (well, the one character I'm not too fond of is Maya) (...) Handing out the Favourite Character label was kind of tough. Not that I need to have a favourite character, but whenever somebody asked me who's my favourite character, I couldn't think of one!

That all changed when I finished the third game, Trials & Tribulations. After solving the last case, I absolutely fell in love with Phoenix. The last case of the third game gave Phoenix a hero status (in my opinion!), and the sweet relationship he had with Iris Hawthorne lured the romantic girl inside of me and, well, you know, I fell in love with Phoenix too. (Phoenix and Iris are my Ace Attorney OTP!).

Then came the new Apollo Justice era, and though it was a little sad that Phoenix was no longer a playable character, I was very, very happy to see that Phoenix still had a large role in it, and uncovering the case that caused him to lose his defense attorney's badge gave Phoenix more history and depth. I loved him even more! Plus, he became a daddy, and his relationship with Trucy quickly climbed to the top of my list of All-Time Favourite Relationships (not as an OTP though, of course).

I wanted to make a Phoenix site for a while but never got around to doing it since I had a bit of a falling out with webdesigning. But here I am, attempting to do Phoenix some justice (har har). I had a really difficult time thinking of a title for this site, and finally settled on Checkmate, which kind of fits the courtroom atmosphere, especially when Phoenix is in there! I wanted to name it something that related to poker at first, but I didn't think that Royal Flush or Full House would sound that great for a site name.
