Daughter

  • TRUCY WRIGHT: Phoenix's adopted daughter. Her real father is/was a client of Phoenix's (who is on the run from the law).

It came as a big shocker to many people when they found out Phoenix has a daughter. The big question that came to mind was, "Who's the mother?" Things made much more sense after it was established that Trucy, Phoenix's new daughter, is actually adopted. Still, the idea of Phoenix becoming a daddy was a tad awkward at first. It wasn't until you can see the two and their adorable relationship that you realize how good it was that Phoenix had Trucy and Trucy had Phoenix.

Trucy was originally supposed to be in Phoenix's care only temporarily, but when it became apparent that Trucy's real father (Zak) wasn't going to be able to take care of her (he was a bit busy ... running away from the law. To be fair, it was a crime he did not commit), Phoenix decided it would be alright if Trucy stayed with him. Or rather, Trucy kind of just decided to stay with Phoenix after hearing her father isn't coming back.

Parenting

Trucy was a peculiar child. She did not look sad at all when she heard her father disappeared and that she would have to stay with her father's lawyer, of all people. It didn't take Phoenix long to figure out that that's just the way Trucy was. She was a ball of sunshine and it didn't seem like anything could take her down. Phoenix had just lost his job as a defense attorney, so having all this optimism and happiness around him was good for his mental health. After all, Trucy lost both her parents at such a young age and she's coping with it just fine. There's no reason why Phoenix can't get over his hurdle either.

Phoenix starts off as the bumbling kind of parent, unsure of how to raise a kid. It's not really surprising since Phoenix never had any children of his own, and the closest experience he has to raising a kid was Pearl Fey, Maya's cousin, who tagged along on cases from time to time. Even then, it was mostly Maya's job to take care of her little cousin and not Phoenix's, so taking care of Trucy is a totally new experience.

Trucy isn't afraid to say things, and innocently, but boldly, tells her new daddy that his old job was boring and that it's probably good he got fired because now he can have a new and more exciting job! Since Trucy's biological parents were both magicians, Trucy was also interested in magic tricks and suggested that Phoenix transform his now useless law office into the Wright & Co. Talent Agency! Whether it was to please the child, or whether it was because Phoenix really didn't know what to do in his life anymore, he did. He also found himself supplying Trucy with all the equipment she needed for her magic show acts, such as magical panties for pulling birds, rabbits and ribbons out of.

Phoenix eventually assumes the position of full time daddy and really gets the hang of it. He truly cares about Trucy and has a necklace with a locket that inside has a picture of her in it (he "stole" that from Zak, but that's another story). Trucy brought out the more cheerful and carefree side of Phoenix, and really showed him that there's life outside the courtroom.
