Roxas was different from the other Nobodies. Unlike them, he did not possess any memories of his time as "his other half", as Sora. He seemed to know about Sora (Roxas was searching for Sora, after all) but he had so many questions that nobody could answer. He not only wanted to know who Sora is and why he didn't have any memories, he wanted to know why he was a Nobody. If they are two halves of one person, then why is he the Nobody? This was what he desired to find out in the beginning, and the questions never ceased to boggle his mind. It led him into a chase, a hunt for Sora, but also a hunt for himself.

Roxas was envious of Sora and even after merging with Sora, he was still envious, if not more. He was more or less a shadow of Sora and Roxas did not like the idea of being somebody else's shadow, somebody's Nobody. As a member of Organization XIII, he was rather prideful and rightfully so. Incapable of feeling emotions, the incompleteness within him: they all bothered him. Roxas wanted to know why he was the Nobody and why Sora was not. Why couldn't it be vice versa? Why was he the one who was doomed to fade into nothing? He didn't know how to feel; was he just a part of Sora, the main person; or were they really two halves of a person?

"Who are you talking to? Me? Or Sora?"

Roxas set out to find Sora. He wanted answers to his questions, but the Organization was much too secretive to tell him anything, if they had the answers themselves to begin with. Unsatsified by the lack of knowledge and driven by frustration, Roxas searched for Sora. When he met him he would find his answers and when he got his answers, he will defeat Sora. If Sora is eliminated, than Roxas would no longer be "the shadow of Sora", he would be "Roxas", his own individual. If Sora is eliminated, it would prove that he is the one more worthy of existing. Though this route seems quite drastic, it is well known that the Organization XIII member known as Roxas was a much angrier person than Roxas, the boy who lived in Twilight Town.

Roxas' plans for finding Sora were halted when Riku captured him and DiZ put him into a virtual world prison while Sora had his memories rewritten by Namine. Not only was Roxas trapped, his memories were wiped clean and he couldn't remember anything about his life as an Organization XIII member. As a result, Roxas believed he lived quite normally in Twilight Town all his life, as if he was a different person altogether. It was thanks to a series of strange dreams involving Sora's memories and Axel's intrusion into the cyber world, did Roxas regain his memories.

When Roxas finally did find Sora, he did not fight him, or demand answers. He saw the boy asleep within his capsule, and something clicked inside of him; after all, DiZ programmed him to do this action. He merged together with Sora to become one again. He still didn't understand why he was Sora's Nobody, and he still didn't know how he came to be one, but he got that feeling of completeness. Through his days living in Twilight Town, Namine was busily rewriting Sora's memories, which in turn, affected Roxas. He could sometimes hear Sora's voice. He could sometimes see parts of Sora's memories. And he knew, from Namine, that Sora need Roxas to complete him, as much as Roxas needed Sora to complete himself. The Twilight Town Roxas realized that Sora was not a true threat to his own existance after all.

Not just that, but Roxas was tired of it all. He was outraged that he was played by DiZ, he was upset that he was a being that was not meant to exist, and he knew there was no way to stop it all than to merge with Sora and become one whole again. He had lost hope in himself.

"You're lucky. Looks like my summer vacation is ... over."
