Final Fantasy Dissidia![]() Final Fantasy Dissidia is a fighting game that features various Final Fantasy heroes and villains. The game was released in 2009 as part of a campaign for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series. The heroes and villains chosen for the game are generally the main protagonists and antagonists of each installment of Final Fantasy. Tidus, as the main character of Final Fantasy X, is obviously in the game. The game is mainly a fighting game, kind of like Super Smash Bros. minus the crazy arenas and power up items. There is, however, a Story Mode option with a (surprise, surprise!) storyline involving all the Final Fantasy characters searching for their respective crystals to aid Cosmos in the battle against Chaos (the two gods warring against one another). Each character has an Odyssey story that you fight through to complete their part of the story, with each Odyssey ending with the protagonist facing off against the main villain/antagonist in their respective games. Appearances: Tidus looks so young!Your eyes are not deceiving you, Tidus really does look younger in Dissidia. Nowhere near as young as he looks in Kingdom Hearts, but still, there's something about his face that makes him look a little younger. Square-Enix explained that some of the characters were made to look younger to fit the overall character design better (for example, Zidane was made to look older ...) After all, characters from the first half of the FF series and the latter half of the FF series have different character designers, so in order to make it so the characters look natural being together in one game, they had to modify them a little bit. You may also notice Tidus' hood looks different, kind of sticking up with little red balls at the ends. If you look at the Amano artwork for Tidus, his hood is designed in the same way. I suppose they were trying to decrease the large differences in Amano and Nomura's character design by doing this, but I still think it's pretty obvious that the first Final Fantasy characters are designed by someone else, and the latter Final Fantasy characters, another person. Amano likes lots of detail. Nomura likes belts. And zippers. Tidus' OdysseyIn Final Fantasy Dissidia's world, the Goddess of Harmony: Cosmos and the God of Discord: Chaos, have been waging war against one another for eons. They are of equal strength, so the war between them was thought to last forever, but eventually, Chaos begins overpowering Cosmos. The two gods call for the aid of warriors across space and time to help aid them in the final battle. Each character (on Cosmos' side) is given an Odyssey to complete in Story Mode where they search for a Crystal to use in the battle to help Cosmos, as well as having to deal with problems they had in their original games. In Tidus' Odyssey, Tidus travels with Firion (FF2), Cecil Harvey (FF4) and Cloud Strife (FF7) in search of their crystals. Tidus is clearly the most cheerful of the bunch, I'm mildly amused he didn't piss off Cecil and Cloud, the Angsty Boys. I was actually pretty surprised to see Tidus in a group with Cloud (since I naturally assumed Cloud would be paired with his BFF Squall). In any case, Tidus ends up being separated from most of them except Firion, while searching for his crystal (actually, Cloud kind of wandered off from them on his own and Tidus pretty much told Cecil to leave and deal with his issues). The entire time, Tidus talks about how much he wants to beat his Dad (Jecht) in a good fight (as we all know, Tidus hates his Dad's guts), which prompts Firion to question as to why Tidus wants to fight his family. The end of Tidus' Odyssey is pretty similar to the end of Final Fantasy X, in that Tidus realizes he doesn't actually despise his father; all he wanted his father's approval. Upon such this realization, Tidus is allowed access to his crystal, which he uses to help aid Cosmos in the battle against Chaos. Tidus' VillainSome think it's kind of strange that Tidus' villain is Jecht, his father. In the original FFX game, the role of 'main antagonist' has always been a gray area. I personally think of Jecht as a great rival of Tidus. Sure, Jecht ends up being one of the final bosses in the game, but Jecht isn't a villain in the dictionary sense. If anyone's a villain, I'd pick Seymour, but the game developers felt Tidus and Seymour have little connection between them to form a proper relationship, so in the end, they chose Jecht. Which is just as well, because frankly, Seymour scares me. |
