Love Interests

Yuna and Tidus are clearly the canon pairing of Final Fantasy X. Like many installments before this (and in many love stories before this), the main hero and main heroine fall in love over the course of the story, experience some difficulties and manage to achieve a happy ending in the end. Yuna and Tidus certainly fit the recipe's requirements, but also like many other fandoms, non-canon pairings pop up often. Some of them are ridiculous, some of them are cute. The funny thing is, in Final Fantasy X, since Tidus started off as such a flirt, it's not surprising why some of these fan-pairings showed up!

For the record, I am all about Tidus and Yuna, though this page exists because it can.

A common non-canon pairing is Rikku and Tidus, or as fans have affectionately called it, the Tikku pairing. Rikku and Tidus meet very early in the game, but unfortunately are split up and forced to go separate ways when Tidus goes overboard on her ship. Later on, they reunite and the two of them were very excited to see one another again. Both have the same cheerful, outgoing personality complete with a strong sense of determination. It's easy to see why they would seem perfect for one another. Rikku is cute, she's sweet and she rescued Tidus at Baaj Temple. Let's remember that Tidus did have that rather conflicting dream during his stay on Besaid Island, where it seemed as if he could not make up his mind if Rikku was better, or Yuna. In this fandom, Rikku is usually a victim, the unloved one in a love triangle, while Tidus is in love with Yuna and Rikku does not want to interfere with her cousin's happiness. Such tragedy only makes fangirls squeal more and think that Rikku and Tidus are absolutely perfect for one another. I like them better as best friends, but everyone likes different cups of tea.

Another pairing is Lulu and Tidus, though it is not as popular. Within the game, there are quite a few times where the player can choose if Tidus wants to flirt with Lulu or Yuna. There is no doubt within anybody's mind that Lulu is a very beautiful woman. For fun, I tend to always make Tidus flirt with Lulu to see her reaction. If Tidus does make a move on the black mage, Lulu will simply wave him aside and more or less, tell him he has absolutely no chance with her. Lulu is probably not interested in seventeen year old boys anyway. Lulu's type of man ... is Wakka. Ah, yes, Wakka, with the gravity-defying hair.
